The Cercis canadensis Are Beautiful

The Cercis Canadensis or better known as Red Bud trees are out in force and are beautiful.  This tree thrives in the Eastern part of the U.S. as far north as Canada and can live as far south as Florida.  It does not do well in the West especially with the arrid temperatures.  This tree can grow up to 20 to 30 feet tall and have kind of a twisted trunk with several branches.  The red buds, that are actually a dark pink majenta color, come out in spring and will last until early summer.  The tree is also known at the spice wood tree due to Native Americans using the the twigs and leaves to flavor their game while cooking.  It is a pretty tree and it grows well here in eastern Tennessee.
